Freshly flaked cereals contain all the vital nutrients of the whole grain and thus form the basis for a healthy, modern diet. The flaking process gently breaks down the grain, whilst preserving the valuable germ oils, which are rich in vital nutrients and enzymes. Flake-based treats are chewed more thoroughly than flour-based products and stimulate intestinal peristalsis far more effectively than ground grain. Flakes are therefore also referred to as the ‘toothbrush of the gut’. The texture of the flakes provides a pleasant chewing sensation and gives them a distinctive flavour.
